Black and Gold - September 2016

By this point in the month you'd think you were done with the chunky coats and woolly scarves and be in blazers and tees. Not so in Sydney! Surprisingly, it is still too cool for just a blazer, but surely it's bound to warm up any time soon - preferably very soon! In any case, I have been on the look-out for the perfect transition blazer, especially one with gold-tone buttons and am pleased to say I have found one!

This black, double-breasted blazer is from Forever New and is a great buy. It’s a tailored fit so, contours to your body creating a flattering shape. It is also fully lined so, it’s comfortable to wear. The thing that surprised me most though is the quality; it definitely looks, as well as feels, a lot more than its $100 price tag.

For me, a black blazer, especially one with gold-tone buttons is a closet staple due to its classic cut and versatility. The gold buttons add an air of class and authority to your outfit as well as some flair. You can create so many different looks with this slick blazer. For example, it looks equally as good in the office paired with an A-line skirt or tailored trousers, a white shirt or cami and classic pumps or strappy heels for a professional look or teamed with jeans or shorts and a white t-shirt for casual chic.

Skincare routine - August 2016

I've always had super sensitive skin and, as I have gotten older its sensitivity has only heightened! (sad face). So, it goes without saying I have experienced much difficulty finding products that my skin can tolerate. Even products designed specifically for sensitive skin, including the organic kind, have been too harsh for my skin. I've lost count of the months on end I've gone without using anything for fear of the implications of using something new.

Over the years, in a bid to manage and reduce my skin sensitivities, I modified my diet, eating only clean, fresh, nutritious foods and eliminated alcohol - every, single, little drop (which was how much I used to drink anyway! lol). Whilst my skin improved significantly, my skin care products were still causing irritations.

After several years of trial and error, following a recommendation from a friend, I am happy to report I have finally found a skin care routine that works for me. Yay!

I will pause here and state, I understand these products may not work for everyone but they work for me so, I wanted to share in case they are good for your skin too.

For the past two years, I have been using Dr. Hauschka products as they are gentle on my skin. I use this cleanser and moisturiser and I have also used some of their night creams. However, I recently discovered these amazing products from Natural Instinct. These products are made from natural ingredients, without any harsh chemicals such as sulphates, parabens, artificial fragrances and colours, propylene glycol, silicones, PABA and EDTA, mineral oils and other potentially harmful ingredients to you and the environment. I have been using these products for one month now and am very happy with the results. The leave my skin hydrated and feeling so soft in the mornings. More importantly, they don't cause irritations. Plus, they are Australian-made therefore, significantly cheaper than foreign-made products.

Bear in mind, with any good skin care regime, I recommend always removing make-up each night and thoroughly washing your face. Firstly, I wipe off my make up using a wet wipe - this means you will be using less cleanser on your skin. Next, I remove my eye make up using Jojoba Oil. This is the absolute best thing I have ever used! It is such a gentle and effective way for removing eye make-up, especially because the skin around the eyes is so delicate. Simply add a few drops to a wet cotton wool then gently massage back and forth over the eye. After that I cleanse my face to remove any excess make-up, pat dry then apply the eye cream and moisturiser. I have to say this eye cream is miraculous!

In the mornings, I don't do much except wash my face with water, apply my eye-cream and moisturiser then my make-up. I don't actually cleanse my face again in the mornings because I don't feel there is any need. I like to keep things simple because that's best for me and my skin. I also don't feel there's any point using unnecessary products such as a toner and clogging my pores.

Finally, you cannot underestimate the benefits of water in keeping your skin soft, hydrated and supple. Aim to drink at least 2 litres of water every day and ensure to get 7-8 hours sleep each night.

High-waisted shorts - July 2016

I know we're right in the heart of winter in Australia, and in Sydney this winter has been icy cold. Nonetheless, there are places to be and people to see; you still have to attend functions and get out and about even in freezing temperatures so, why not do it with some style and panache?

I have repeatedly expressed my love for wearing items that are unique and have a little bit of flair. On that note, I bought these stylish leather-look, high-waisted shorts from Sheike. I opted for the tan because it’s a great colour to wear in winter, as an alternative to black, and can then be easily transitioned into the Spring/Summer seasons, paired with lighter shades but they are available in black (and look ultra-chic!) for those who wish to play it safe.

The shorts are a little baggy in their cut making your legs appear long and slim, and are fitted without being tight around the waist due to the elasticated stretch waistband and adjustable waist tie so, they are really comfortable on. Plus, they are fully lined.

I like wearing shorts in the colder months because you can dress them up with thick sweaters and jackets, even a trench coat for a trendy twist and create various looks to get the most out of your items.

For a girls' night out I paired the shorts with opaques, knee-high boots and a fitted cold-shoulder top to balance out the high waist and relaxed fit of the shorts. Just don't forget your coat! ;-)

All about leather – June 2016

Ok, I admit it - I am (slightly) obsessed with the leather-look this year! Some of my favourite leather-look pieces have been purchased from Sheike.

This slim-fitted, short, black leather-look skirt is such a hot little number! It fits well and is so versatile. I want to wear it all the time! I also bought it in the nude colour! (like I said - OBSESSED hehe)

My knit is an old one from Cue but I love the copper shades against the black leather. There are so many ways to wear this skirt but I suggest pairing it with a sexy sweater and ankle boots to be on point this season.

Linked below are some knits that I am loving at the moment and that would look great with this skirt:

Knits: Ruffle detail knit (love this!); Chevron knit; Colour block knit; Graphic strip knit; Block stripe knit; striped off-shoulder knit; knit; ruffle-neck knit – Leather-look skirts: here; here

In the Navy – May 2016

One of my favourite colours for this autumn/winter season is navy. I love wearing this deeper, darker shade of blue in the cooler months because it is a softer alternative to black, which means it's not as dramatic yet still makes an impact. It also means I won't get lost in the sea of black that descends over the city in winter (lol). There is something so sophisticated and flattering about navy. For me, it exudes a sense of confidence and authority - that's why the police and military dress in this colour!

I already own this stylish skirt in tan so, when it was released in navy I immediately snapped it up. The skirt is a high-waited, midi-style and has the best shape to it; fits perfectly to your body and creates the sexiest silhouette. Plus, it's so comfortable on.

Here I have paired it with my snake print shirt and snake print pumps for a slightly edgy look but, it is such a versatile colour it will look great with so many colours. I especially love it with nude or beige, white, cream any and all shades of pink from blush to fuchsia and I cant wait to wear it with baby blue. So many possibilities!

I hope everyone has a fab weekend. It's the last one for autumn.

Sweater Weather – Not! – April 2016

Here in Sydney, the temperatures of late have been so mild with gorgeous sunny days it feels like Spring. In fact, this autumn has been so warm most retailers are holding frequent sales in order to entice people to buy their winter stock!

I love staying warm in the cooler months by wearing cozy sweaters, particularly ones that are stylish and different from the rest, like this one from Sportsgirl. What’s more, I am absolutely crazy about cut-out shoulders this season! (well, all cuts-outs really!). The grey colour I have is sold out but the orange is still available.

The style of this sweater with the curved hem is very flattering, contouring to your body without being clingy or fitted and the exposed shoulders add a touch of ‘casual sexiness’ to your look. Who would have thought a sweater would be sexy!

I just need the cooler temperatures to set in!

Shirt-style dress - March 2016

Over the last few weeks in Sydney, the cool autumn change has come through (along with lots of unexpected rain). Whilst the rain has stopped - for now, temperatures are much cooler than they have been. That’s ok because I have been waiting to wear this sexy long-sleeved, laced-up, shirt-style dress from Sheike.

Initially, I was concerned the lace-up feature down the front of the dress would be too revealing especially seeing as the length exposes a whole lot of legs, but thankfully it all balances out in a feminine and classy way. In fact, the lace-up adds a touch of sexiness yet the dress still covers a lot of skin. I love the lynx pattern and the combination of colours and it's so easy to wear and feels really comfortable on. Plus, the dress is lined on the bottom-half. It will look hot with opaques and heeled ankle boots in winter time. Best of all, it's currently on sale!
