Skincare routine - August 2016
I've always had super sensitive skin and, as I have gotten older its sensitivity has only heightened! (sad face). So, it goes without saying I have experienced much difficulty finding products that my skin can tolerate. Even products designed specifically for sensitive skin, including the organic kind, have been too harsh for my skin. I've lost count of the months on end I've gone without using anything for fear of the implications of using something new.
Over the years, in a bid to manage and reduce my skin sensitivities, I modified my diet, eating only clean, fresh, nutritious foods and eliminated alcohol - every, single, little drop (which was how much I used to drink anyway! lol). Whilst my skin improved significantly, my skin care products were still causing irritations.
After several years of trial and error, following a recommendation from a friend, I am happy to report I have finally found a skin care routine that works for me. Yay!
I will pause here and state, I understand these products may not work for everyone but they work for me so, I wanted to share in case they are good for your skin too.
For the past two years, I have been using Dr. Hauschka products as they are gentle on my skin. I use this cleanser and moisturiser and I have also used some of the night creams. However, I recently discovered these amazing products from Natural Instinct. These products are made from natural ingredients, without any harsh chemicals such as sulphates, parabens, artificial fragrances and colours, propylene glycol, silicones, PABA and EDTA, mineral oils and other potentially harmful ingredients to you and the environment. I have been using these products for one month now and am very happy with the results. They leave my skin hydrated and feeling so soft in the mornings. More importantly, they don't cause irritations. Plus, they are Australian-made therefore, significantly cheaper than foreign-made products.
Bear in mind, with any good skin care regime, I recommend always removing make-up each night and thoroughly washing your face. Firstly, I wipe off my make up using a wet wipe - this means you will be using less cleanser on your skin. Next, I remove my eye make up using Jojoba Oil. This is the absolute best thing I have ever used! It is such a gentle and effective way for removing eye make-up, especially because the skin around the eyes is so delicate. Simply add a few drops to a wet cotton wool then gently massage back and forth over the eye. You may even use it to remove all your make-up but I prefer to just use it for my eyes. After that I cleanse my face to remove any excess make-up, pat dry then apply the eye cream and moisturiser. I have to say this eye cream is miraculous!
In the mornings, I don't do much except wash my face with water, apply my eye-cream and moisturiser before putting on my make-up. I don't actually cleanse my face again in the mornings because I don't feel there is any need. I like to keep things simple because that's best for me and my skin. I also don't feel there's any point using unnecessary products such as a toner and clogging my pores.
Finally, you cannot underestimate the benefits of water in keeping your skin soft, hydrated and supple. Aim to drink at least 2 litres of water every day and ensure to get 7-8 hours sleep each night.
